Visa Launches College Student Credit Card Education Program
Published on May 19, 2007 1:55 PM ESTIn an effort to educate college students about responsibly using student credit cards, Visa launched a national education program called What's My Score (www.whatsmyscore.org).
What's My Score explains credit scores for college students and offers advice on how the score may be improved. Some other useful tips include information on buying a car, paying for college, identity protection and saving.
College students will learn about Credit Bureaus, why it's important to frequently check personal credit records on file, and whom to contact to find out a personal credit score.
According to a recent Visa credit survey, only 64% of cardholders surveyed knew their credit score by the age of 40.
It's very useful to know your score when applying for a credit card, mortgage, auto loan, a line of credit, or any other type of credit.
College students may also want to check out Visa's Practical Money Skills for Life program (www.practicalmoneyskills.com). This web site has information for elementary and high school students, teachers and parents.
