Published on June 25, 2007 3:01 PM EST

Visa and Creative Mobile Technologies (CMT) have announced that starting in June 2007 Visa credit cards will begin to be accepted by some New York City taxis. Thousands of New York taxicabs will become equipped with technology that will allow passengers to pay with their Visa credit cards.

New York taxis equipped with new credit card readers will be able to accept both Visa payWave transactions as well as traditional "swipe" transactions. Payment readers will be located in the back of the taxi.

Passengers will be able to include a tip to the price of the fare. No signature will be required for transactions under $25.

Creative Mobile Technologies (CMT) is a New York City-based taxi technology company providing taxis with technology like secure credit and debit card capability, GPS, and customized taxi business management software.
